Pricing: Lab Created Diamonds vs Real Diamonds Let's face it, diamonds are expensive. The engagement ring's average cost is over $6,000. If those numbers scare you, you may want to consider more affordable options.

As lab grown diamonds have grown in popularity, one of the main questions we receive is whether or not a lab grown diamond can be resold at a later date. Please let us be clear, buying an engagement ring or diamond, regardless of origin, with the intent to sell it in the future is not a good investment, but it’s not a worthless purchase. Many traditional jewelers tell customers that lab created diamonds have absolutely no value, but this could not be further from the truth.

With the lab-grown diamond, you can now find an identical diamond for only $1,350. If you look at the natural diamonds from James Allen, an identical diamond is now a bit more expensive, coming in at $1,890. The natural diamond performed as expected. Diamond prices have historically risen at a steady rate.

A 2-carat lab created diamond might cost around $10,000 vs. $22,000 for a mined diamond. The savings is more than enough to put towards a wedding, your Instagram-worthy honeymoon, or, well, a brand new iPhone.

Tell me more), they clarified that lab-grown diamonds are typically “20-30%” less expensive than mined diamonds. Apparently, lab-created diamonds follow a simpler process than mined diamonds, which means “less costs get passed onto the consumer.” As for their ethical benefits, lab-grown diamonds have the advantage of not being “mined using exploited labor,” and are thus “the only diamonds that can be trusted to be truly conflict-free.”

The Resale Market. Before we discuss the resale value of a lab diamond, we must discuss the resale value of a mined diamond. Excluding 'investment grade' mined diamonds, it is virtually impossible to sell a mined diamond purchased in the last decade for a profit, relative to inflation (i.e. for more money than what you paid for it).

An Element Six exec said he’s seen the price of industrial synthetics drop markedly. And then there’s lab-grown colored stones: The lowest-price lab sapphires cost less than $100. Created gems are, like created diamonds, chemically the same as their mined counterparts. But their values are very different.

The cost of lab diamonds can fluctuate, but on average, a 1 carat lab diamond will cost between $1,000-$2,000, or more depending on its grade. Are lab-grown diamonds GIA certified? Lab diamonds are graded on the same scale of Cut, Clarity, Color and Carat weight as natural diamonds.

Diamond cost depends on size and quality, but generally speaking, you’ll spend $3,000 to $5,000 per carat for earth mined diamonds. Lab created diamonds are typically 30% to 50% less expensive than mined diamonds. that means that lab diamonds could cost as little as $1,500 per carat.

The other diamond grades are the same as the diamonds we looked at with James Allen. Ritani's lab diamonds are also IGI certified. The price difference between the natural and lab diamond is going to be $3331. And let's not forget it's not even what we're looking for.
