Yes, Hearts and Arrows diamonds look larger than non-ideal cut round diamonds. They look bigger because they provide more brightness and brilliance across the diamond. The optical precision and symmetry allows light to interact better with the diamond's facets.

Hearts & arrows cut diamonds

Hearts & arrows cut diamonds
There cannot be any missing hearts or arrows. The intensity of each heart and each arrow should be identical. If there are some that are less pronounced or “less visible,” this is not a great hearts and arrows diamond. The hearts should all be the same shape and size.

Let’s have a look at how the hearts are actually formed in a hearts and arrows diamond. If a diamond has perfect hearts, it will also automatically exhibit perfect arrows! This is why diamond experts like Brian Gavin tend to only look at the heart patterns to check the quality of a H&A diamond.

For a diamond to be called a true Hearts and Arrows stone, the cut quality goes beyond the Ideal / Excellent rating. This is a beyond perfect stone – hence the term sometimes used to describe Hearts and Arrows diamonds: Super Ideal. The diamond below shows a clear pattern of arrows gracing the crown.

Most people may not know what they are but they know that for a diamond to be beautiful and brilliant, it should be a hearts and arrows diamond. Hearts and Arrows or H&A is a type of diamond cut that reflects light brilliantly with symmetry, you can see this with a special tool that is made just for viewing this type of diamond.

It seems that the rarer a gemstone is, the higher the consumer, jeweler and collector demand for that stone rises. Hearts and arrows diamonds are no exception to this rule. Less than 1% of all diamonds for sale in the world classify as bona fide, 100% excellent-graded hearts and arrows diamonds.

When viewed from the top (crown) using a hearts & arrows scope, an ideally cut diamond should reveal eight symmetrical arrows. On the other hand, when the diamond is viewed from the bottom (pavilion), it should reveal eight symmetrical hearts. This is what you will see when looking through the scope with a blue filter.

There doesn’t seem to be an official industry standard for hearts and arrows, but there are a few things you can look for in a diamond that indicates whether or not the stone is a high quality. An ideally cut diamond will typically show eight symmetrical arrows when you look through the top of it.

Whether you see hearts or arrows will depend on how you put the diamond into the hearts and arrows viewer. If you put it table-down, you will see hearts, and if you put it table-up, you will see arrows. Sometimes, you may see blue, red, orange and green hearts images.

In short, if you want to see if your diamond is a true hearts and arrows, you can purchase a H&A viewer and look at your diamond, they should be easy to find for sale by doing a quick Google search ( note that you see Arrows from the top of the diamond and Hearts from the bottom of the diamond. If you have already mounted the diamond, you will not be able to see the hearts, only the arrows.); or your could seek an appraiser who has a H&A viewer to appraise the diamond; or you could seek out ...
